We Are Christ Church

Four years ago I followed Father DiLorenzo to Christ Church from another parish, where I wasn’t being fed. Here the worship service, the enthusiastic singing, and the celebration of the Eucharist are what I was seeking, and I have found many other satisfying opportunities to serve God and also to enjoy fellowship.

My husband and I were both raised in families of faith, and it is important to us to raise our sons to love our lord Jesus Christ and to know His teachings. After some searching, here at Christ Church we have found a warm, loving community of worshipers who truly practice the precepts of Christ.

I started attending Christ Church with my wife, Evadney, in 1999. The people are what keep us engaged and I am filled with joy when seeing the tremendous impact the church has on the community especially during the holiday season at the Dickens Festival.

My wife started coming to Christ Church in 1998. She would often talk about the great atmosphere and the friendly people, so when I retired ten years ago and was finally free on Sundays I decided to see what all the fuss was about. She was definitely right about the people, and I've been a regular at the 8:00 a.m. ever since.

At a difficult time in my life, more than thirty years ago, when I was attending another church, I turned left instead of right one Sunday morning –– literally! –– and found myself at Christ Church. I went inside, and here I found a Bible-believing community, open to deep sharing, outward expressions of faith, and a genuine devotion to spreading God’s word.

After moving from Central Islip, I was searching for another Episcopal church. I had served on the Bishop's Committee, as president of the Episcopal Church Women (ECW), and as eucharistic minister, so I wanted to continue my commitment to the diocese. Because Christ Church was friendly and similar to my former parish, I felt comfortable and decided to stay. That was 20 years ago, and I am still involved in our ECW and weekly mass.

We began attending Christ Church two years ago after a six-month search of Episcopal churches in the area. Our visit to Christ Church stood out; it was family-friendly, welcoming, and inclusive– things that were important to us in finding a Christian community. There is a warm and humble atmosphere in this parish, with many opportunities to get involved.
