Episcopal Church Women

Membership in the Christ Church chapter of the ECW is open to all women of the congregation. In fact, all women of Christ Church are members by virtue of their belonging to an Episcopal Church. The ECW is very active, often behind the scenes, at all Christ Church social functions. They host the Annual Meeting, provide dessert and more for the Spaghetti Supper and the Mardi Gras celebration, and are part of the enormous Dickens Festival effort every December. Their charitable work includes collecting stamps for St. Mary’s Convent in Greenwich, CT, who support an order of nuns in Malawi; pennies for the Miles of Pennies Fund, to fulfill grants for books for needy children; and knitted hats and scarves and toiletries for the Seamen’s Institute. At Christmastime they coordinate the Adopt-a-Family program, sponsored by St. John’s Episcopal Hospital in Brooklyn, and collect “stocking stuffers” for Maryhaven Center of Hope in Port Jefferson. There are opportunities to socialize with ECW members from other churches on Long Island and in Brooklyn, organized by the diocesan ECW.
