Sexton
A sexton is a church officer charged with the maintenance of the church buildings.
Currently, Christ Church is without a sexton. The text below descripes the role and responsibilities of the temporary
Facility Manager.
- Go through the Church Building and Barnabas House the first week of every month and make a list of things that need to be fixed or replaced
- For Barnabas House give the list to the Barnabas House Board for approval (put in Jr. Warden's mailbox)
- For the Church Building give list to vestry for approval (put in Sr. Warden's mailbox).
- Supervise and assign tasks to volunteer workers and county labor department persons, and see that all materials are ready.
- Attend Barnabas House Board / or Vestry meeting monthly.
- Make sure the guests take out the trash and recyclables from Barnabas House and put near street on side of driveway near Barnabas House for pickup. Supervise removal of trash.
- Garbage pickup - Monday and Thursday
- Recyclables of Bottles and cardboard - Wednesdays
- Large items - Thursdays
- Check and repair, as required, one a month the following:
- Security lighting and exit signs
- Exterior and public lights are functions for both Barnabas House and the Church building.
- During the winter months remove snow and ice from all facility sidewalks, driveways, entrance ways and stairs.
- Snow blow or shovel front sidewalks within four hours o the end of the snowfall during the day.
- Make sure snow plowing of the parking lot is done.
- Salt walks and stairs when needed (map of property will be given to you).
- Be on call for emergency repair requests for the students.
- (Ex. Sink is leaking or drain is clogged)
- You will receive $25 an hour for up to 8 hours work per month to include:
- Minor repairs on monthly list.
- Minor repair to Barnabas House (After approval by the Barnabas House Board).
- Minor repair to Church building (after approval by the vestry to do repairs).
- As per the policy of the Diocese of Long Island all Church workers must take the Sexual Harassement education/ child abuse prevention classes given by the diocese (it can be done online).
