Commandments for an Altar Guild
- Follow a regular plan of spiritual discipline in prayer, worship, confessions, communions. We must be Godly.
-
Study with a regular plan your church and her teachings. Attend a lecture course annually; read at least one good book on the Faith annually. We must be intelligent.
-
Know the needs of your particular parish and your job. There is no excuse for pious fumbling. We must be efficient.
-
Know that you can never be worthy of the privilege of serving in God's Sanctuary. You do not do God a favor by your work. It is a vocation. We must be humble.
-
Know that you are not just called to ecclesiastical housekeeping. Altar Guild should be equipping us as responsible leaders in the parish at large. We must be reverent key people of the parish.
-
Understand that your task is not simply routine or mechanical. It must be seen as an opportunity for joyous discipleship and enthusiastic service to the living Christ.
-
Realize how fortunate your are in this service to God's altar. We must be thankful.
